Survey Research and Social Action
[New page 3 December 2014]
This page will carry occasional information on publications and initiatives demonstrating how survey research can aid the evaluation and implementation of social action, in line with the underlying philosophy of the book Social Surveys and Social Action (Heinemann 1951) and 1974 paper Social Surveys, Social Theory and Social Policy (SSRC Survey Unit, 1974) by the late Dr Mark Abrams.
Scout. 2008.
LGBT Surveillance and Data Collection Briefing Paper. Online publication
National LGBT Tobacco Control Network / The Fenway Institute
Substantive LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender) content apart, this is a fine example of how survey research and systematic collection of administrative data can impact on social action and social policy. There are examples of how questionnaires can be modified for a specific target audience and there is a list of 30 useful references.
