D-Day ceremony 2013
[Page last updated 3 August 2015]
On 9 June a ceremony (with live music) was held in the church at Cerisy-la-Salle attended by flag-bearers and residents from every commune in the canton. After the service the musicians led a procession to the War Memorial where wreaths were laid, commemoration speeches were made and a minute's silence observed for all those who have died in war. After the ceremony the band led the flag-bearers, veterans and members of the public to the Salle des Fêtes in Cerisy-la-Sale for a vin d'honneur, speeches and a presentation. This was followed by a splendid lunch for 160 veterans and their guests in the Salle des Fêtes at Notre Dame de Cenilly (the only one big enough to fit everyone in).

Here is a slide-show of the ceremony, the vin d'honneur and the lunch. In 1944, Serge Torchio, then aged 11, showed the war photographer Robert Capa where to get pictures of German soldiers, both dead and taken prisoner.
Here are some short video clips of the ceremony and the vin d'honneur (with sound).
Can be jerky: trick is to start play, then move pointer back a bit to avoid catch-up over-run.
1 Procession leaves church
2 Wreaths follow
3 Procession leaves War Memorial
4 Band plays during drinks
