Courses in Applied Social Surveys
University of Southampton
CASS is a programme of short courses in applied social surveys for academic social scientists and applied researchers in government, market research and the independent and voluntary sectors. They are run by the Southampton Statistical Sciences Research Institute (S3RI) at the University of Southampton and is part of the ESRC National Centre for Research Methods (NCRM). The programme covers topics in survey design and implementation, survey sampling, data collection and data analysis methods. The programme covers all aspects of the quantitative survey process from design to data collection and analysis. The courses aim to provide guidance and workshop practice for researchers who face practical survey tasks and decisions, such as how to draw a sample, how to design a questionnaire and how to analyse a data set.

We run a series of courses aimed at social researchers working in a range of settings, including central and local government and elsewhere in the public sector, as well as to other students interested in researching policy. These courses form part of the MSc in Policy Analysis and Evaluation, but can also be taken as stand-alone courses as part of continuing professional development.
